Equity swing traders at Maverick hold positions for several days to several weeks. The role is suited to traders who think in trends and base structures rather than ticks, and who prefer a routine that doesn't require chair time at the open. Swing traders typically review overnight, plan in the morning, and check in at key points during the session.
What You'll Trade
US equities across the cap spectrum, with a bias toward names that have clean, tradable chart structure and a clear catalyst path over the next several weeks. Earnings exposure is allowed but managed — many swing traders here trim into earnings or hedge with options. Hard-to-borrow short positions require approval.
Day-to-Day
- Scan for setups overnight or first thing in the morning — typically against a defined screen (e.g., relative-strength leaders pulling back to support)
- Mid-morning: enter planned trades, set hard stops in the trading system, log entry rationale
- Manage existing positions through the session, trail stops, take partial profits on objective triggers
- End of week: review the entire book, cut what isn't working, let winners run
Risk Profile
Swing trading carries overnight gap risk — earnings, news, and Asia-session reactions. Maverick swing traders cap exposure per name, cap correlated-sector exposure across the book, and run a portfolio-level drawdown limit. Position sizing is meaningfully smaller than what most retail swing traders run because we're protecting firm capital across a portfolio, not maximizing a single trade.

- Traders who can sit through a position drawing down 1–2 sessions without panicking out
- People comfortable with rule-based entries and exits — not gut feel
- Traders who understand sector and market context, not just individual chart patterns
