2016 Mid-Year Review
It is always beneficial to pause periodically and analyze your trading performance, win/loss percentages, reward/risk ratios and risk-adjusted measure of return (Sharpe ratio). Without looking back and analyzing performance numbers, it is hard to improve as a trader.
At Maverick, we do the above self-analysis every six months in a live class. We also make our predictions for the coming six months, including major trends and best/worst sectors.
2015 Year In Review
Professional traders understand that trading as a profession is all about yearly returns, not daily results. In this archived video, we look back at a significantly profitable 2015 at Maverick Trading (when the markets were basically flat).
Maverick’s head traders also make their predictions for 2016 and discuss the major themes of the markets and possible trading opportunities.
Options Pricing 101: Options Premium Breakdown
Many aspiring option traders do not understand the basics of option pricing, so we created this class about the “ABC’s of options.” Without understanding things like implied volatility, historical volatility and option pricing models, traders will inevitably choose the wrong option strike prices and expirations.
At Maverick Trading, we make sure that all of our option traders are very well versed in option pricing models and how to apply the models to live option trading.
Call Ratio Backspreads
This strategy is all about news announcements, earnings reports, and volatility. It is not very often that you can create a trading strategy where if the stock explodes in a certain direction, you make a massive gain – and if you are flat out wrong and the stock goes the other way, you can still make a small gain or break even!
This is a strategy that the traders at Maverick Trading have used profitably over the years.
Emotions & Trading
We have yet to meet anyone who failed at trading from lack of charting knowledge, financial info, etc. People fail at trading because they are human and are prone to make mistakes. There are thousands of books and websites about charting and technical analysis, but nothing covers how you are going to feel when trading does not go your way.
We have many discussions with our traders on the emotions of trading and how to win in spite of them. The emotional side of trading is truly where the game is won and lost. Embrace and expect these emotions and understand how they will attempt to make you react.
